Biomechanical Motion Capture & Sports Performance Analysis
This ongoing research project focuses on wearable, IMU-based human motion capture and biomechanical analysis for sports performance assessment. A wireless, ergonomic, and cost-effective wearable sensing platform has been designed and developed to capture human movement using distributed inertial sensors. Sensor-fusion and signal-processing algorithms have been implemented for accurate estimation of dynamic joint-angle variations during complex movements.
The current research focuses on weightlifting technique analysis, combining IMU-derived motion data with video recordings and athlete-specific information from Commonwealth, national, and amateur-level weightlifters. Signal processing, entropy-based analysis, and graph-theoretic methods are being explored for movement pattern recognition and quantitative characterization of sports techniques. A performance space and benchmarking framework are being developed to enable objective comparison of movement quality and technique across athletes.
The platform is designed as a general-purpose biomechanical analysis system, with future applications extending to high-speed and complex-motion sports such as athletics, cricket, and other performance-intensive disciplines.
