Data-Energy Networking enabled Light-based IoT (DE-LIoT)
This project explores Data-Energy Networking enabled Light-based IoT (DE-LIoT), a sustainable approach for creating battery-free indoor sensor networks. Instead of relying on conventional batteries, IoT nodes harvest energy from indoor illumination while exchanging information through optical wireless communication. Nodes located in well-lit areas can accumulate surplus energy and redistribute it to nearby energy-deficient nodes through Optical Wireless Power Transfer (OWPT), creating a cooperative energy-sharing network. The main focus of the project is to study, optimize, and intelligently manage this energy-sharing process so that available energy is used as efficiently as possible across the network. Using a digital twin of the DE-LIoT environment, we can explore multiple deployment, illumination, node-placement, and energy-demand scenarios virtually, analyze network behavior, and develop smarter strategies for deciding when, where, and how much energy should be shared.
